Good evening, it's Monday, July 16th. This is the Jive at Five, WESU's Daily community calendar and run down of night time programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. Here in Middletown Mondays through Thursdays  from 10am-noon through during July and August, Stacey Stroka leads The Buttonwood Tree’s Open Arts & Crafts program. Everyone is welcome! Every Monday night, J-CHERRY hosts the ANYTHING GOES!” OPEN MIC AT THE BUTTONWOOD TREE.  Signups begin at7:30pm. Performances start at 8:00pm.

Wednesday night will be the first Middletown Gallery Walk, which will continue every third Wednesday of the month from now until October from 5:00-8:00 pm.

Friday night, California performers Mark Lemaire and Twilight bring their 'beautiful two-part harmonies and virtuoso guitar' to the Buttonwood Tree.

Saturday at the Buttonwood Tree is a double bill starting off with 'contemporary jazz guitar innovators' Sheryl Bailey and Vic Juris, followed by a little Rock n' Roll with Ray Mason. Show begins at 8:00 pm.

Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood Tree every Sunday. All are welcome and invited to help prepare vegetarian food at the First Church on 190 Court Street at 11:30 am.

Tonight and every Monday night down in New Haven, Rohn Lawrence and Friends make smooth jazz on the lily pad stage. Wednesday is always the weekly dubstep dance party, and Thursday Harlem rapper Cam'ron will take the Toad’s Place Main stage in honor of Dj Craig G's birthday.   Friday brings 'Opuspalooza 2012' a metal and hardcore summer fest. Also down in New Haven tonight from 7-10 pm, Fistful of Jokes Presents: A Benefit for Bonnie L. Taylor, followed by an acoustic open mic with Miss Kriss. Tuesday Night Café nine presents nuclear indie group 'Girl in a Coma' along with Black Box Revelation and You Scream I Scream.Wednesday night Fake Babies; Ports of Spain; Elison Jackson; Kindred Queer; and Jose Oyola take the Café Nine stage starting at 8 pm. Thursday Blues @9 brings the John D'Amato band to the stage, and Friday Night will see Nona Hendrix, of the funk/glam/rock group 'Labelle' • Café nine’s Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam will be hosted by the George Baker Experience this week. The Middletown Commission on the Arts presents their annual Summer Sounds concert series on the City's South Green (Union Park) on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer. Tomorrow night features Loren Evarts Jazz Group. More information at arts2go.org.

The Hartford Jazz Society brings live jazz every Monday night to Bushnell Park followed by a jam session at Blackeyed Sallys. Starts at 6 pm.
 

On Tuesday nights in Hartford, you can catch  Mike Palin’s “Other orchestra” an 18 piece big band live on stage at Black-eyed Sally’s.  Every Wednesday night Sally's hosts one of the longest running open blues jams in New England!  ‘Tis the season for farmers’ markets and here’s a few in our area:
The Durham Farmers' Market is open every Thursday on the Town Green on Main St,  from 3 to 6:30 pm, through September. The longstanding Middletown Farmers’ market at the South Green is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 1 pm through October. The Middletown North End Farmers Market is now open 10 am to 2 pm every Friday and is located at the corner of Liberty and Main Streets in Middletown.

Tonight and Tomorrow,  Cinestudio, the Trinity College cinema in Hartford,  will be showing the 1958 French film 'Bonjour Tristesse.' Opening Wednesday and running through Next Tuesday, Cinestudio, presents a new work by American director Wes Anderson entitled, 'Moonrise Kingdom' which took the opening slot at the Cannes Film Festival. From 11:30 - 12:30 Anvil Isle presents a musical monsoon of alternative rock, blues, dream, funk, hard rock, indie, punk, reggae, surf, and world music inviting you to bury your feet in the sand and hear the waves come crashing through your speakers.

From 12:30-3:00 Psychedelic Rick presents the late night Summer Concert Series featuring live concerts in their full glory. For tonight’s concert, Rick presents: Parliament Funkadelic  Live at Howard Theater at Howard University: Washington, DC. Nov 1 1978.

From 3-4am Maximum Rock and Roll Radio features an hour of international loud rock and punk.

The BBC World News Service kicks on at 4AM and we begin tomorrow's broadcast at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
