Tonight Oddfellows Playhouse & Hygienic Theater Works present “The King," starring John Bassinger, with an additional showing Saturday at 7:30. "The King", conceived and adapted by Basinger, is the story of King Lear, from one man’s perspective – Lear’s. The performances will benefit Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater. Tonight at Cafe Nine in New Haven they have The Great New Haven CD Mix-Up! The Cavemen Go; w/Dialogue from a Silent Film; Farewood • Bring a homemade mix CD, get a homemade mix CD! Saturday at Cafe Nine, Manic Productions Presents: Howlin Rain (members of Comets On Fire); w/D. Charles Speer & The Helix; The Voodoo Fix. Sunday, Roxy Perry's Traveling Roadhouse Jam anchors the Cafe Nine stage. National recording artist Roxy Perry, a/k/a New York Blues Queen, will be joined in hosting the high-energy jam by different players every week. Roxy's band welcomes and serves blues and R&B players primarily, but will also back classic rock, jazz players and others. For more information visit www.cafenine.com
Tonight, The Modern Riffs bring an evening of jazz, classic rock and swing to The Buttonwood Tree. The high-energy nine-piece group of experienced musicians and talented high school performers takes the stage at 8. Saturday night The Buttonwood presents Songwriters Showcase with Diane Solomon, Paul Lombardo and Jim Paradis. Every Sunday, Food Not Bombs shares food around 1 pm in front of The Buttonwood & all are welcome. Sunday evening from 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm The Buttonwood kicks off a new event, Coming to the Mic, hosted by Ty Mapp and Chandra Williams that will be filmed in its entirety to be aired on Comcast TV. All are welcome to participate as performer or audience member. Tonight, at 7 and at 10, the Wesleyan University Center for the Arts presents "Risk!" at the Crowell Concert Hall. Creator Kevin Allison will host two performances of "RISK" featuring a special guest headliner to be announced, as well as members of the Wesleyan community, dropping their "act" and telling their amazing true tales, showing sides of themselves that they never thought they'd dare to share in public.
Friday kicks off Wesleyan’s February organ fete: a mini-festival of organ music featuring some of the top players at Wesleyan. Performances are tonight at 8pm and Saturday at 4pm in Memorial Chapel. Admission is free.
Friday night in East Hampton at Higher Grounds Coffee House at 70 Main Street it's their weekly open mic - all are welcome. For more information visit Higher Grounds Coffee House on Facebook.
Sunday in Wesleyan's Crowell Concert Hall, flutists Helene Rosenblatt and Peter Standaart, and pianist Neely Bruce, Wesleyan Univ. Professor of Music, will perform a program that includes premieres by Mr. Bruce and composer Martin Bresnick. This concert, at 3pm, is free and open to the public. The Alturos Duo was originally scheduled to perform South American chamber music featuring the unusual combination of the viola, charango and guitar in the Russell Library's Hubbard Room at 2 on Saturday. That performance has now been scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 2pm. More information can be found at russelllibrary.org

Center Church, in Hartford, invites you to an evening of Bossa Nova and Poetry, tonight at 7:00 p.m., in the second floor parlor of the Center Church House on Gold Street. The 16-piece New England Jazz Ensemble will appear on the stage of the Performing Arts Center at Middletown High School on Sunday afternoon at 3. The Concert will feature two guest artists, Giacomo Gates - a Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist, and Ali Ryerson - internationally recognized for her jazz flute.
