Good evening, it's Tuesday February 28th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Tonight, Middletown's NAACP presents a film screening of Alice’s Ordinary People. At The Russell Library.  The film profiles Alice Tregay, an unsung heroine of the civil rights movement in Chicago.  Sunday March 5th Russell Library celebrates international women's day, with a panel discussion on women's issues in the Hubbard room.   www.Russelllibrary.org

Thursday's installment of the Artful Lunch Series hosts Rhea Higgins who will give a presentation on Wesleyan’s Davison Art Center. Friday the 3^rd, at 8pm, Wesleyan’s Center For the Arts presents the Connecticut premiere of the dance work “Walking with ‘Trane” by Urban Bush Women. Inspired by the musical life and spiritual journey  of the famed jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, the dance is set to live music inspired by  "A Love Supreme” and other works. Now, here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:

Through March 2^nd, Real Art Ways is screening 2017 Academy Award Nominee for Best Animated Feature Film, The Red Turtle.  Additionally, this week, Real Art Ways continues screenings this week of 2017the OSCAR NOMINATED live action and ANIMATED SHORTS through Thursday.  Friday Real Art Ways begins their run of the 2017 Academy Award Nominee, Best Documentary Feature, I Am Not Your Negro about James Baldwin.  Details & screening times at www.realartways.org

At 9pm it’s the The Big Controversy with Eric Kuhn for 30 minute of funny and poignant words and music.

From 9:30‑This is Water with Eric Hagen features conversations with friends pondering heavy subjects.

Urban Legends with Ben and Isabel comes your way from 10‑11pm         

From 11pm‑12am, it’s time for Nouns! with jackalope who wraps each episode around a new noun from 11pm until midnight.

Down the Lineage with DJ Mos Def Not and Hyphy take over from 1-2 am for a hip hop show that aims to take the Oh Geez out of the OG’s.

From 1‑2am, stay tuned for The New Music show with CHRIS.

Then we’ve got 2 hrs of old school Rn B and soul music with Sir Bruce from 2‑4am on The Greatest Sounds Under the Sun.

The BBC World Report takes over from 4-5 am.
