Now, here's a rundown of what's happening in our area this week:

The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown offers Laughter Yoga tonight at 6 pm. On Friday, it’s the eleventh annual Composers and Improvisers Festival, at The buttonwood Tree, featuring composer Joe Fonda and guitarist Mike Musillami, pianist Paul Arslanian, and jazz tap dancer Brenda Bufalino. On Saturday morning Annaita Ghandy’s Aligned with Source workshop happens at 10:30 am. Saturday night it’s The Kennedys, bringing you roots, folk rock, and more. On Sunday, fiddler/stepper April Verch brings North American roots music and stories to the Buttonwood at 3, followed by a reading of Book 5 of Milton’s “Paradise Lost” at 7 by John Basinger. Tonight, down in New Haven at Café Nine, they headline Agent Orange, appearing with FEA and Damn Broads. Tomorrow/Wednesday, It’s a Double Record Release Tour with two headliners, Arc Iris, and Superhuman Happiness. Thursday brings Bim Skala Bim, The Hempteadys, and Rude Boy George to the Café Nine stage. Friday’s Happy Hour artist is Snake Hill Blues. Later Friday night, Café Nine presents Sun Dagger, Rudeyna, and Head With Wings. Café Nine’s Saturday Afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Gary Grippo & Friends, this week. Saturday night’s line up at the Nine features Craig Bell & His Band, Stefan Christensen & Friends, Worn Leather, and Consolidated Plastics. "The Sunday Buzz" Matinee headlines The Bandidos, along with The Tommy and Travis Moody. Gary Burr and Mark Mirando come your way later Sunday night to round out the weekend. www.cafenine.com

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra works out new material on Tuesday nights. Wednesday’s weekly Community Blues Jam will be hosted by Ed Bradley this week. On Thursday, the Balkun Brothers host a Rock-N-Roll Residency, with special guests each week. Friday, you can hear hip hop, reggae, and more with The Alchemistics. On Saturday, Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez take the stage with rock n soul.www.blackeyedsallys.com 

Tomorrow/Wednesday, Manic Productions brings Dinosaur Jr and Cloud Nothings, to the College Street Music Hall in New Haven. Also on Wednesday, Manic presents The Felice Brothers and Jake Xerxes Fussell at The Ballroom at The Outer Space in Hamden. They’ve also got Cymbals Eat Guitars, Field Mouse, and Spectral Fangs at Bar in New Haven on Wednesday night. They’ve got more at the College Street Music Hall this weekend, with Twiddle headlining the Friday and Saturday shows, and of Montreal and Ruby the Rabbitfoot appearing Sunday evening. At Toad’s Place in New Haven, Thursday’s featured artist is Sammy Adams, appearing with Huey Mack, Indy, and Millyz. On Friday it’s Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime, along with Ian Biggs & the Ruckus, Inosoul, and On the Fritz. On Sunday they headline August Burns Red, appearing with Erra, Silent Planet, and Make Them Suffer. www.toadsplace.com

At the Russell Library in Middletown, the Veterans Writing Group meets every Thursday at 7. On Saturday, they’ve got their Jazz Up Close series at 2, featuring saxophonist Steve Wilson and his trio. On Friday at 8, Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts opens the concert season with the annual Bach to School organ concert at Memorial Hall, featuring the work of Maurice Duruflé. Here in Middletown you can you can support local farmers and get nutritious home-grown goods on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the long running market at the South Green on Old Church Street from 8am-1pm.  On Fridays, The Middletown North End farmers market happens on Main Street outside Its Only Natural Market. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut: 

Through Thursday, Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run of “My King (Mon Roi)”, a film about a woman who examines a turbulent relationship after a skiing accident. Also continuing is “Life, Animated,” a true story about a family discovery that Disney animated films will help them communicate with their troubled son. Both run through Thursday.  On Friday they open “Unlocking the Cage,” a documentary about the animal rights lawyer Steven Wise as he seeks to transform animals from “things” to “persons” with legal protections. www.realartways.org 

Trinity College’s Cinestudio continues the run of ‘Heironymus Bosch: Touched by the Devil,” a Dutch film that explores the depth of this artist’s legacy as they celebrate the 500th anniversary of his death. Opening Thursday is a run of “Little Men,” a story of the family drama that surrounds two teenagers in contemporary Brooklyn. It runs through Saturday.  On Sunday they open “The Lobster,” starring Colin Farrell in a dystopian comedy about singles who turn into animals if they don’t find a mate by a deadline.  Details and screening times at www.cinestudio.org 

The Hartford Free Summer Movies series brings you “Bee Movie” starring Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger this Friday at Riverfront Park. Details at www.riverfront/org

Now here's what's on the air tonight on WESU:

Right after the Jive, Stay tuned for three hours of   Acoustic Blender with Bill Revill, for an eclectic selection of new and older folk, Americana, bluegrass, blues and other music that has a roots influence with a concert listing at 7pm and frequent concert and festival ticket giveaways.

From 8-9pm The Voice of the CITY with J-Cherry is a weekly show featuring live and local Connecticut arts and music.

From 9-10:30pm its time for Radio Obscura, whose hosts claim your eyes won’t believe what you hear on their show.

At 10:30 it’s an hour of underground hip hop with DJ Malik-1Fam  (sounds like Muh-leek – One – Fam) on Underdog’s Edge.

At 11:30 Upfront Soul with Sanguine Fromage offers Funk, soul, and jazz, plus sprinklings of R&B, gospel, and hip-hop for two hours until.

RootsWorld Radio with Cliff Furnald takes you on a tour across borders and genres, introducing you to music from far flung places and sometimes from right in your own backyard, from 1:30-2:30am.

At 2:30 stay tuned for All Mixed Up with Peter Bochan from Pacifica Presenting a collage of great music and current events soundbites.

BBC World report comes your way at 4 am and we begin tomorrow’s broadcast day with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
