Down in New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight it’s WORDS & MUSIC with Drained Glory, Dan Kalwhite, K. Ponzio, Craig Taylor, Stosh Mikita, Craig Gilbert, and the ­Cody Place Band. Thursday night, Café Nine offers a New Years Burlesque with Cabaret, Magic, Side-Show, Games, & Fun surprises!  Friday’s Weekly Happy Hour at 5 features Sean Conlon. Later Friday night, The Nine offers a double bill featuring WOODY PINES and Wise Old Moon.  Saturday’s. Later, Saturday nightr it’s the Jazz Jam session is with Mike Coppola and Friends at 4:30. Up in Hartford, Black-eyed Sally’s it's their long running weekly Community Blues Jam, hosted by Tim McDonald, this week. Infinity Hall brings in the new year at their Norfolk venue with a performance by The Allman Neville Pitchell Band with Special Guest Saagar Ace. An annual New Year's Eve Contra Dance starts at 8 p.m. and winds down about 12:30 a.m. in the ballroom of the West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St. Bob Isaacs will call to the music of the Celtic Wild Notes. A potluck is planned for 6:30. www.hcdance.org

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Up in Hartford at Real Art Ways, through Dec 31, They continue their run of Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict a documentary about the colorful character who was not only ahead of her time but helped to define it. Also showing through Thursday at Real Art Ways is Janis: Little Girl Blue in which Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (Deliver Us from Evil) delves into the life of late rock legend Janis Joplin. Friday Real Art Ways begins a run of NOMA: My Perfect Storm, A documentary about the celebrated chef René Redzepi, set against the backdrop of the Copenhagen-based restaurant NOMA, named the Best Restaurant in the World in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014. And at 9:30, it's The Vault with DJ Anton Banks. Presenting listeners with the latest in hard techno, minimal, tech-house and leftfield mixed live. Exclusive music from international artists.

From 11 to midnight, listen to Sean D's extended edition of  Metal on Metal. The radio show dedicated to the extreme. Black, thrash, death, progressive and power metal.

From 1 - 3 am tune in for Franco Liseo as he plays all the disco hits from the '70s and '80s.

And from 3 - 4 it's Sing Out! Radio magazine with Tom Druckenmiller. A weekly hour long magazine format programs featuring interviews in addition to live and recorded traditional folk music.

The BBC World News follows at 4, and we start your day bright and early with Morning Edition from NPR at 5 a.m.
