Here’s some of what’s going on in our area this week:
The Summer Sounds Series at Harbor Park, sponsored by
Middletown’s City Arts Office and the Middletown Commission on the Arts, continues
Tuesday with Bootstrap, bringing you instrumental riffs on rock and soul hits.
The show begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in South Church due to the

At the Russell Library in Middletown, tonight (Tuesday) at 7
you can join the Russell Readers to discuss “The Devil Baby at Hull House,” by
Jane Addams, and “The Man Who Could Work Miracles,” by H.G. Wells. The

The Right-Offs, and Worn Leather. On Wednesday they headline Ponybird,

Jeremy Lichter, and Dean Falcone. Friday’s Happy Hour artist is Victor Roland
at 5 p.m., followed at 10 by Quiet Life, and Caroline Rose, brought to you by
Manic Productions. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session at 4:30 is with Tony Dioguardi
& Friends, followed at 9 by the Full Blast Summer Tour with Duece Bug, Joey
Batts and Them, Stryfe, and Dinero. Sunday’s matinee show headlines Slaid

Manic Productions brings The Psychedelic Furs and Church to
the College Street Music Hall in New Haven tonight. On Wednesday, The
Beach Boys with Mike Love appear at the College Street Music Hall. They also

Down in New Haven at Toad’s Place, they headline Lil Herb on
Thursday. On Friday, 365ent presents the Roc-a-Fella Reunion, with a

On Thursday you can enjoy The Mighty Soul Drivers, bringing
you the classic soul of Memphis and more, as part of the Sunset Sounds Concert

Wednesday from 4 to 7, Durham’s is on Thursdays from 3 to 6. The Clinton market
is every Thursday from 4 to 7. Middletown’s North End market is on Friday from
10 to 2, with the long-running market on the South Green on Tuesdays and
Thursdays through October. There’s one in Higganum Village on Friday from 3:30
to 6:30, and in Cromwell on Friday from 4 to 7. On the shore, Old Saybrook
markets are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A new market is open at 53
Broadway in New Haven every Friday from 10 to 2. The Chester market is

Disappearance,” a comedic crime thriller from Norway, this Thursday through

At Real Art Ways in Hartford, the run of “Tangerine” about
transgenders dealing with the various subculture in Los Angeles, and shot
entirely on an iPhone 5s, continues through Thursday. Also continuing is
“Court,” an absurdist portrait of injustice, caste prejudice, and venal
politics in contemporary India. Opening on Friday is “Tribe,” a Ukranian film
about a high school for the deaf, presented without subtitles or
voice-overs. Also opening are “Unexpected,” a drama about an inner-city
Chicago high school, and “Listen To Me Marlon,” an inner look into Marlon

Trinity College’s Cinestudio continues its run of Thomas
Hardy’s “Far from the Madding Crowd,” starring Carey Mulligan, through
Thursday. Their Out Film CT series presents a screening of “Tiger Orange” on
Thursday, about two gay brothers leading very different lives. On Friday, and
continuing through the weekend, they open “The Apu Trilogy,” with screenings of
three restored films by Satyajit Ray, the greatest Indian director of his

The BBC world news report follows that at 4am and we begin
tomorrow’s broadcast with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
