Now here’s some of what’s going on in our area this week.
At the Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts,it’s a very busy night,
tonight! in conjunction with the Middletown Public Schools, you can catch the
annual Celebration of Silent Sounds, with stories, poetry, and more from area students
in grades six through twelve, in CFA Hall at 6:30. At 7, South
Indian music is performed at World Music Hall and The Weswinds Spring
Concert happens at 8 in Crowell Concert Hall. The annual Organ Romp
is this Thursday at 10 in Memorial Hall. On Friday, there’s a West
African drumming and dance concert at 3 in the CFA courtyard. Later,
at 8, there’s an electronic music concert in CFA Hall. The Feet to
the Fire Riverfront Encounter happens on Saturday starting at noon at Harbor
Park. Enjoy art, kids’ activities, environmental exhibits, crafts
and more as part of the Wesleyan Creative Campus Initiative. Details

At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, tonight brings their
weekly Laughter Yoga program with Mimi Poitras which will start at 6 and be
followed by a vegetarian potluck. On Thursday it’s an Open Mic with
Bob Gotta. Bring your own instrument, and there’s a piano on site.
On Friday they bring you two songwriting teams: Ben and Nancy Parent
of The Rivergods, and the Ravens in the Woods duo with Rempe Kooij and Lauren
Agnelli. The Aligned with Source workshop series with Annaita Gandhy continues
this Saturday at 10:30. This week’s theme is Honoring Your Truth. Later at
8, they bring you the jazz quartet Medusa, featuring tap dancer Corey Hutchins.
Food Not Bombs serves food outside the Buttonwood Tree every Sunday at about 1
p.m. Help prepare the meal at First Church on Court Street at 11:30. Next

In New Haven tonight, at Cafe Nine The Meatmen, Against
the Grain, and Lushlife take the stage. Wednesday’s show includes
Amy Lavere featuring Will Sexton, and Heather Fay. Thursday’s headliner is
Head with Wings. Friday’s 5:00 Happy Hour artist is The Helwigs,
followed at 9 by Toyz, If Jesus Had Machine Guns, and Ports of Spain.
Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session at 4:30 is with Gary Grippo & Friends, with a
live concert-recording session of the George Baker Band later at 9. Their

Up in Hartford, at Blackeyed Sally’s, on Tuesday nights,
Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra, an 18-piece band, works out new material.
Wednesday’s Blues Jam is with Cynthia Fabian & Carl Ricci.Their CT Blues
Challenge happens on Thursday at 8. Friday they bring you The Neybas, a
Connecticut cult favorite with danceable classic rock. On Saturday
they feature the Roberto Morbioli Band with his unique guitar

Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown presents “The Waltz” by
Carolyn Kirsch this Saturday at 7:30, stage by Vintage Players, with all
proceeds going to the Playhouse to benefit ongoing children’s programs. The
play was a semi-finalist at the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in
Central Connecticut:
At Real Art Ways in Hartford, they continue their run of “Dior
& I,” a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the first haute couture
collection of it’s new art director, Raf Simons. Also continuing is
“La Sapienza,” about a man’s trip to Italy to complete a book about the
architect Borromini. They both run through Thursday. Wednesday
Matinee Series presents “Ten,” an Iranian film about the stories of ten women
as told to a female cab driver in Tehran. On Friday they open “3 Hearts,”
a French drama about destiny, connections, and passion in a classic love

At Trinity College’s Cinestudio, the run of “White God,” a
Hungarian film about a girl and her lost dog, continues through Tuesday. On
Wednesday they open “Queen and Country,” a realistic comedy-drama about a young
man entering the British Army in the 1950’s. It runs through
Saturday. On Sunday they open “Seymour: An Introduction,” Ethan
Hawke’s film about the octogenarian Seymour Bernstein who teaches piano in New

and the G-O who will journey, drill, grab, sing, and banter thier way through
the wild world of sports.
At 2:30 its Occupy Radio from Pacifica, An extended
conversation about the issues which gave rise to the Occupy Movement.
