Here’s a rundown of some of what’s
happening in our area this week.
Here in Middletown, at The Buttonwood Tree, tonight brings an evening of Karoke buttonwood Style hosted by Deni. Friday night, Singer/songwriter and humorist, Don White performs at The Buttonwood Tree. Saturday mornings get started at 7:30 with Tai Chi and Qigong followed by self empowerment workshops at 10am. Saturday evening, Parker’s Tangent, based out of greater New Haven, CT brings their blues and roots based original art rock to the Buttonwood. On Sundays, Food Not Bombs serves food outside the Buttonwood Tree at 1pm. All are Welcome. Rumpus, invites you to join in a community rhythmic experience on Sunday inside the buttonwood while Food Not Bombs serves it up outside. The CT Poetry
Society Middletown Chapter holds its meetings on the last Wednesday of every month. The meetings are open to the public and
take place at 6 p.m. in Meeting Room 3 at Russell Library. RSVP to

speaker for a program entitled Baseball Before the Civil War at Russell Library
at 7pm on Thursday. Author Elisabeth Petry leads The Veterans' Writing Group at
7:00 pm on Thursday in Meeting Room 2. Elaine Wolf, “the anti-bullying

Each Wednesday night in
Middletown, The Mattabesset Canoe Club at Harbor Park offers a weekly
Irish music session. Thursday the canoe club presents a weekly jazz series.
Then Friday, you can catch some live blues. Vocalist

tonight at Cafe Nine, you can catch Wess
Meets West, with Beijing opening. Thursday night at Cafe 9, The King of
DieselBilly returns for a night of Honkey Tonkin' in the Elm City. Sharing the
bill this Thursday is Bill Kirchen. On Friday, Oddball Events Presents:
Scott Biram along with Black Pistol Fire, and Fave Hill opening. Saturday
the weekly Café 9 Jazz Jam session will be hosted by The George Baker
Band. Later on Saturday night at 9pm String Band takes the Cafe 9 stage.

At Blackeyed
Sally's in Hartford, tonight you can
catch the long running Blues Jam session, hosted by Tim Mcdonald, this week. Friday,
Jimmy Thackery takes the Sally’s stage for a night of Blues Rock and Roll.

on Thursday, Chief Keef comes to Toad's
Place. Friday afternoon There’s a local Battle of the bands on the Toad’s
place Lily pad stage starting at 4pm. Later on Friday Toads Main stage, The
legendary reggae rhythm section, Sly and Robbie present: DanceHall masters

This Friday and Saturday, Wesleyan’s
Center for the Arts and Theater Department present the Connecticut Premiere of Who's
Hungry, a stunning work of Puppet Theater that weaves together oral
histories of five very different homeless and/or hungry residents of Santa
Monica, California. Together with the Center for Community Partnerships
(CCP) and Amazing Grace Food Pantry, we are hoping that the production will
also help focus attention on food insecurity in Greater Middletown. This
month, Amazing Grace issued a RED ALERT: meaning they simply don’t have
enough food to feed the over 1,000 families that rely on the pantry to put food
on their tables. The pre-holiday season is often one of the most
difficult times of the year for contributions. To learn how you can help,

Sunday at 3pm you can catch the
first of twelve CD-length recitals by Wesleyan Professor of Music Neely Bruce
of his piano music. This recital will feature the world premieres of “A Partita

This Friday and Saturday Grammy
nominated Folk/Pop/Rock/Punk Singer/Songwriter and former WESU DJ,
Lauren Agnelli is featured in 2 events in Artreach's year-long
Songwriting for Social Change project. Friday night you can catch Lauren
in a solo concert and Saturday afternoon songwriting she will present a

Several farmers' markets in our area are still in full swing. In Middletown, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Halloween, there's a longstanding farmer’s market on the South Green. Through October 25th, on Fridays, in Middletown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The North End Farmers Market happens in the parking lot of It's Only Natural Market on Main St., near the intersection of Liberty St. from www.northendfarmersmarket.org.
In Cromwell, on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m., the farmers' market is at Covenant Village through September 26a nd features live entertainment weekly, from 4-5pm. In East Haddam, there's a farmers' market from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the town grange on Town Street through October 2nd.
