Down in New Haven tonight Café nine presents Les Rhinocéros, hailing from the Washington, DC area, the young band Les Rhinocéros delivers a crazy world in sound, blending aspects of rock, world music, noise, ambient and jazz. Wednesday night DIE HIPSTER PRESENTS "UNPUNKED" where local punk rockers show their chops on on acoustic instruments!! Thursday MANIC PRODUCTIONS and FISTFUL OF JOKES Present a night of comedy at café nine with Neil Hamburger, Duncan Trussell; and Dan Rice.  Friday night Sarah Lou Richards; w/ Mike Clifford make for an early set of night of Nashville twang at 6:30/. Later at 9:30 Christina Harris returns to New Haven and co-headlines a night of piano driven pop.  

Café nine’s Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam will be hosted by Tony Dioguardi and Friends this week. Saturday Night Babement; Dead Wives; and Two Inch Astronaut  make for a Garage, post punk showcase with all girl Pavement cover band. More online at www.cafenine.com

On Tuesday nights in Hartford, at Blackeyed Sally’s you can catch Mike Palin's Other Orchestra, an 18 piece jazz ensemble.  Every wed at 8:30pm Sally’s hosts one of the longest running open blues jams in New England! This week’s session is hosted by Brandt Taylor.

Wednesday night at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, the “Evening Oasis” Belly Dance crew Presents – their annual fundraiser for The Buttonwood Tree!

Thursday night brings the Monthly Writers Out Loud Open Mic to the Buttonwood.

Friday night, The Buttonwood Tree welcomes Amandla, an original roots reggae ensemble featuring five internationally renowned reggae artists: YahKali, Ras Iba, Toussaint the Liberator, Tuff Lion, and Burnie T. 

Saturday brings the buttonwoods annual “Bloomsday” event celebrating James Joyce’s literary legacy. This year’s event is hosted by Abby Reynolds and features live music by Full Gael followed, by an Open Mic.

Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood Tree every Sunday. All are welcome to enjoy the meal and help prepare the food at the First Church on Court Street at 11:30 am.

Later at 4pm on Sunday, the monthly Poetry Potluck gathering offers an opportunity for people who enjoy poetry to get together to share and discuss their favorite works. It isn’t an open mike.

Saturday night at the Outer Space in Hamden you can catch  Jug band revivalists Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights in a double bill with Americana sweethearts, Amalgamated Muck (including the Grammy-nominated Lauren Agnelli), for a night of local roots music.

Tonight, Cinestudio, the Trinity College cinema in Hartford, ends their run of The National Theatre Live’s  stage production of FRANKENSTEIN. Weds through Friday, Cinestudio presents an incredible restoration of Marcel Carné’s film Les Enfants du Paradis which has been called by some, the greatest of all French movies.

Real Art Ways in Hartford has extended their run of the new Bob Marley Documentary, “Marley” through Thursday.

  Also showing through Thursday at Real Art Ways, you can catch “Pink Ribbons, Inc.” a feature documentary that shows how the devastating reality of breast cancer, which marketing experts have labeled a "dream cause," becomes obfuscated by a shiny, pink story of success.

Tonight the first season of Real Art Ways' Science on Screen will come to a close with a screening of the classic 1944 American Film Noire:  Double Indemnity.

Friday night Real Art Ways continues their “Weekends Only” run of: “Lovecraft, Whisperer in Darkness”, written in 1931, H.P. From Midnight til 1:30 am it Back From Baltimore with Hannah back home in Connecticut from her latest semester in Baltimore, bringing each week new and old psychedelic, indie, rock, folk, alternative, lo-fi music and at least a few tunes from Baltimore's music scene.

The BBC World News Service kicks on at 4AM and we begin tomorrow's broadcast at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
