Monday, 4-30-18 Jive

Good evening, it's Monday, April 30th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

I’m Maria Johnson, producer and host of "Reasonably Catholic: Keeping the Faith," which airs every first, third and fifth Tuesday, from 4 to right before the Jive at Five.Tomorrow, a visit with Fr. Dick Rento, a truly wise, progressive-minded,80-something-year-old priest whose new book is It's Not Necessarily So: A Senior Priest Separates Faith from Fiction and Makes Sense of Belief. Father Rento is one of those rare clerics who believes most of the Church's rules are -- and I quote -- "for the birds." In short, he’s the kind of priest Paul Ryan would fire. We talked about all the hot button topics: abortion, the place in the Church of women and gays and divorced and remarried Catholics, and even about what actually happens during the consecration of the Eucharist at Mass. Not long ago, Fr. Dick got called into the woodshed by his bishop. Tune in to learn what happened. Can't listen live? Find the audio archived afterward at www.reasonablycatholic.com

Monday 4-23-18 Jive

Good evening, it's Monday, April 23rd.

I’m Maria Johnson, producer and host of "Reasonably Catholic: Keeping the Faith," which airs every first, third and fifth Tuesday, from 4 to right before the Jive at Five. A week from tomorrow, on May 1st, we'll talk to Fr. Dick Rento, a truly wise, progressive-minded,80-something priest whose new book is It's Not Necessarily So: A Senior Priest Separates Faith from Fiction and Makes Sense of Belief. Father Rento is one of those rare clerics who believes most of the Church's rules are -- and I quote -- "for the birds." We talked about all the hot button topics: abortion, the place in the Church of women and gays and divorced and remarried Catholics, and even about what actually happens during the consecration of the Eucharist at Mass. It could make some of us cranky Catholics think change is actually possible. Can't listen live? Find the audio archived later that night at www.reasonablycatholic.com
