In Middletown, at The Buttonwood Tree tonight
alternative/folk songwriter Kali takes the stage, working material from his new album, “Laugh, Love, Live.” On Saturday mornings Annaita Ghandy’s Aligned with Source workshop begins at 10:30 am.  Saturday, the Sweet As Sugar trio takes the stage with jazz-based and fusion offerings. The 28th Annual Kids Arts Children's Circus comes to Middletown! The performance is scheduled for this evening beginning at 5pm but, in the event that rain causes a cancellation, it will take place at 5pm Saturday. New Haven's Cafe Nine Friday early set at 5 features the Snake Hill Blues. Later tonight, it’s Mobley, The Peach Kings, and Rudeyna. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Billy Cofrances, and on Saturday night Drinkdeeply presents Bjork Night with hosts Mission Zero and many more performers. Hartford’s Hartbeat Ensemble Youth Play Institute presents “A Bullet’s Conscience,” a one-act play tonight through Sunday. It’s about gun violence and the way forward, and is presented at the Ensemble’s Farmington Avenue location.  Details at hartbeatensemble.org 

Connecticut Ballet’s annual Summer Dance Caravan comes to Middlesex Community College this Saturday at 6 at Chapman Hall.  Admission is free, and the program offers contemporary premier works as well as the classics.  Details at arts2go.org

Connecticut’s Farmers' Markets are in full gear now. Here in Middletown you can you can support local farmers and get nutritious home-grown goods on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the long running market at the South Green on Old Church Street from 8am-1pm.  On Fridays, The Middletown North End farmers market happens on Main Street outside Its Only Natural Market. Hartford's Real Art Ways tonight opens “The Innocents,” a French film about a physician called to handle a surprising crisis in a Benedictine convent after World War II. Details on this and other films are at realartways.org

Meanwhile tonight, Trinity College's Cinestudio opens a run of “Love & Friendship,” a romantic comedy about a manipulative widow, based on an unfinished novella by Jane Austen. Details at cinestudio.org

Right after the Jive At Five from 5:05-6 pm, it'll be Wild Wild Live with Chris for some live studio treats and other sonic events.

From 6 to 7pm, Audio Autonomy explores a  new topic and with a different host each week - covering  a mix of culture, politics, music and the arts - brought to you by Wesleyan students from the "Radio Production and the Politics of Independent Media" course.

At 7 until 8:30pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sistah Tee - offering listeners a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. Plus health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.

Next up until 10pm, we take it From the Otherside with Rok-A-Dee where 60% of the show is love songs of different genre and the others Reggae Dancehall, R&B, and new artiste.    
                                                        
Then from 10 to 11:30pm it's Strickly Off the Head where DJ Commotion the Music Mixologist blends R&B, old school, hip hop, rap and house.

From 11:30pm until 3am Saturday we go into OVERDRIVE w/Clarence & Shantay Scott - offering Urban Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Traditional gospel music.

And then, from 3 until 5am you are taken to Wonderland with DJ Cheshire Cat, who has
a song in his heart, a chemical imbalance in his head and a musical library at his fingers. From krautrock to post-rock, grunge to garage, novelty to New Romantic, punk to prog, Wonderland has a place for it.

And we bring in the daylight from 5:00 to 6:00am with the 
BBC World News 
- a daily News roundup from the British Broadcasting Corporation

And staying on the other side of the big pond, from 6:00 to 7:00am it’s
 the Celtic CafĂ©
 with Pat Laffan and Mark Gallagher presenting traditional and contemporary music with a Celtic connection.

And now that the coffee’s hot enjoy CaffĂ© Italia from 7:00 to 8:00am, serving up a slice of Italy every Saturday morning. You don't have to speak Italian to taste it: just relax, listen, and enjoy!

After that from 8-10am you can catch Weekend Edition, Saturday from NPR.

Also continuing is “Tickled,” a documentary about an under-the-radar industry serving those with a fetish for tickling. Both run through Thursday. At midnight it’s time for 4 hours of “The Greatest Sounds Under the Sun” with Sir Bruce laying down some serious old school R&B music.
The BBC World Report takes over from 4-5am and we start each weekday off bright and early with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.

I'm Maria Johnson, producer and host of Reasonably Catholic: Keeping the Faith, which this summer airs every Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to right before the Jive at Five. Tomorrow: a special treat. Colin McEnroe, host of WNPR's The Colin McEnroe Show, explains why, in middle age and after a lifetime of spiritual seeking, he's decided to start attending church, an evangelical Baptist church led by an inspiring pastor who's made his soul something of her special project. And if he's not the best Christian,  well, he says he at least gets the prize for most improved. The conversation was rolling along so well, we just kept going. Part two will be next week. At 8 pm, we bring you Chip Austen’s Unfocused Folk with Americana from Nashville and beyond.

From 9:30-10:30 pm, Cruiser’s Radio with Jack Sullivan offers a blend of Rock & Roll from the 1950-1960’s, along with the music and news of that era.

At 10:30 it’s an hour of “Free Talk” with Al Robinson & Deni Young, a commentary talk show addressing news, politics, entertainment and weather.

From midnight to 3 am Franco’s Studio 54 with Francaccio di Roma provides three hours of Disco and dance music of the 70’s and 80’s.

We switch it up big time at 3 am when Maximum Rock & Roll Radio comes alive to offer the best DIY punk, garage, and hardcore Rock and Roll.  

BBC World news comes your way at 4, with tomorrow’s broadcast day starting with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
