Now, here’s a rundown of some of what’s scheduled in the community this weekend.

Tonight Wesleyan University Center for the Arts presents the New England premiere of The Assembly’s production "HOME/SICK" at the CFA Theater.  The Assembly is a Brooklyn-based ensemble theater project of multi-disciplinary performance artists. "HOME/SICK", explores the political history of how a handful of student activist leaders, disgusted by the Vietnam War and the U.S. government’s repression of those seeking equality domestically, seized control of the Students for a Democratic Society movement in 1969. On Saturday night at 8, the Ignacio Berroa Trio performs latin jazz in Crowell Concert Hall with a pre-concert talk set for 7:15p. Visit www.Wesleyan.edu/cfa for details

Also in Middletown at The Buttonwood Tree, tonight Donna Martin and Gail Wade join forces for a night of songwriting, guitar playing and harmonies as they weave their way through their combined catalogs of folk, country, bluegrass and beyond. Saturday morning kicks off with Qigong, Tai Chi and a self empowerment workshop. You can catch the internationally acclaimed Laszlo Gardony Jazz Trio Saturday night at The Buttonwood beginning at 8p. On Sundays beginning at 1p, Food Not Bombs serves food outside and they invite all to partake. You are also invited to help prepare the meal beforehand at 11 am at First Church Congregational on Court Street. Saturday night Café Nine hosts a record Release Show for Moving Brooklyn featuring Breakthrough Frequencies and Pat Mitchell. Sunday evening brings the Blues Boot Camp with Greg Sherrod. This weekend, Real Art Ways begins their series of Oscar nominate short films. Visit their website at www.realartways.org.

At Cinestudio, the Trinity College cinema, is showing “12 years a Slave”, based on the memoirs of Solomon Northup, who was born a free man in the North, only to be sold into slavery when he visited Washington, D.C. where he lived in bondage for another 12 years. Coming in at 6:30 it's a half-hour with the Middletown Youth Radio Project - A weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity and talent of the
kids in the WESU neighborhood.

At 7 until 8:30pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sistah Tee - Informing listeners about local and global issues with health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips, featuring a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues.

Here’s a brief rundown of some of the cultural and entertaining happenings in our area this week.

Tonight at 5pm Wesleyan University Center for the Arts presents: The Opening Reception and Gallery Talk for the new Davison Art Center’s show, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" on display through March 5th. Thursday and Friday bring The New England Premiere of The Assembly’s production "HOME/SICK" t the CFA Theater.  The Assembly is a Brooklyn-based ensemble theater project of multi-disciplinary performance artists. There will be a post-performance Q&A with Mark Rudd tomorrow. Mr. Rudd was a student activist and organizer in the Students for a Democratic Society at Columbia University, and helped found the Weather Underground. He was a federal fugitive from 1970 to 1977. Right after the jive at Five stay tuned for: Explorers’ Hour with Pickup Sticks, Inviting you to  Venture into the infinity of the unknown via a synthesis of science, spoken word, and a lot of popular music.

That's followed by 30minutes of news and commentary from the World Socialist Website at 6pm

At 6:30,it’s Fusion Radio with James Fusion for 90 minutes of techno from around the globe mixed live.

And at 8:00, Mike Nyce slows it down a few Beats per minute on The Warehouse, another live DJ mix this time featuring underground house music.

From 9:30 to 11 the EDM continues on N.E. Tempo with DJ Berk bringing you 90 minutes of Raga- Jungle, break-beats, and dub step mixed live.

at 11pm It’s midnight Munchiez with Gus Lo for a late night snack of below ground hip hop and street music.

At 12:30 we air an encore broadcast of the 3rd installation of 75 years of Music for Social Change.

The Late Night Concert Series comes on at 2am and the BBC world news starts at 4am, followed by NPR's Morning Edition at 5am.

Thursday at 5pm Wesleyan University Center for the Arts presents: The Opening Reception and Gallery Talk for the new Davison Art Center’s show, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" on display through March 5th. Thursday and Friday bring The New England Premiere of The Assembly’s production "HOME/SICK" t the CFA Theater.  The Assembly is a Brooklyn-based ensemble theater project of multi-disciplinary performance artists. "HOME/SICK", explores the political history of how a handful of student activist leaders, disgusted by the Vietnam War and the U.S. government’s repression of those seeking equality domestically, seized control of the Students for a Democratic Society movement in 1969.
There will be a post-performance Q&A with Mark Rudd on Thursday January 30. Mr. Rudd was a student activist and organizer in the Students for a Democratic Society at Columbia University, and helped found the Weather Underground. He was a federal fugitive from 1970 to 1977. Also showing through Thursday at Real Art Ways is “More Than Honey “, an informative, and suitably contemplative study of the bee world and the world wide bee-population crisis. This Weekend, Real Art Ways begins their series of Oscar nominate short films.

Tonight, Cinestudio, the Trinity College cinema in Hartford ends their run of Part 1 of the controversial  German television miniseries Generation War.  Opening Wednesday at Cinestudio is the film, “12 years a Slave”, a movie based on the memoirs of Solomon Northup, who was born a free man in the North, only to be sold into slavery when he visited Washington, D.C. where he lived in bondage for another 12 years. Bill Revill is back in the chair for a 90 more minutes of Americana roots music on Acoustic Blender at 6:30

J-Cherry and the Strawberry’s host an hour of live local arts and entertainment from 8-9pm.

At 9pm  DJ Cheshire Cat offers a truncated episode of his free form music show, Wonderland to make room for the 4th and final episode of a “75 Years of Socially Conscious Music”  beginning at 10pm. Broadcast weekly throughout January, this program features listener and staff suggestions that reflect both socially conscious music and WESU’s 75 year old commitment to free form radio!

But the “75 Years of…” project will continue throughout 2014, and WESU wants your input!  Each month, we’ll have a new theme, and we want your suggestions on songs to include! February will feature “75 Years of Lyrics Beyond the English Language”.  We are looking for your favorite recordings whose lyrics are in a language other than English, regardless of genre.
