Weds 9-11-19 Jive


Good evening, it's Wednesday, September 11th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Here is some of what is happening in our area this week:

Friday night from 8 to 10 pm in Middletown, at the Buttonwood Tree The Heather Pierson Acoustic Trio will play music ranging from New Orleans traditional
jazz, blues, Americana, and folk. www.buttonwood.org

Up in Hartford at Black Eyed Sally’s, it's the Wednesday weekly Community Blues Jam hosted by Mark Nomad.  Liviu’s Invitational plays on Thursday. Friday , Mark Hummel’s Blues Survivors perform at Sally’s. Saturday night, Sally’s hosts Cosmos Sunshine & Righteous Continental from 8:30-11:30pm. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com

In New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight/Wednesday  there's a Comedy Open Mic hosted by Dan Rice. Thursday, Dany Laj and the Looks will headline a bill including Dusty Hat. Friday’s weekly live music Happy Hour set is with Jenny Parrott. Later Friday Night, Fernando Pinto presents Tex-Mex star Augie Meyers (Texas Tornados) & The Bandoleros along with Steve Mednick & Hard Road. Café Nine Weekly Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam session is with Garry Grippo and friends.
Saturday night’s main event is the Ideat Village Rock Lottery Band Drawing which involves musicians being randomly grouped together for a one-off gig and will have three weeks to practice and return on October 4th and 5th to perform for their challenge. At 9pm Saturday night, Café Nine will host its 25th Anniversary Tribute to Pulp Fiction with Renegade Lounge. The Café Nine Sunday Matinee brings The Grand Par Lauren Michaud and they round out the weekend Sunday night with a bill featuring Dear Rabbit, Rickolous, An Historic, and Squalloscope  http://www.cafenine.com/

At The State House in New Haven tonight/Wednesday night, Adult Swim star David Liebe Hart will headline, a bill featuring performances by Whatever Your Heart Desires, Fat Randy, and King Bongo.
Thursday, the state house will present Michael Nau with Erin Durant, and S. G Carlson. Friday night The Statehouse features an assortment psychedelic, folk, Americana, and indie rock with The Go Rounds, The Right Offs, and Elison Jackson. www.statehousepresents.com

Tonight/Wednesday, the Arch Street Tavern brings Boo-Yah’s weekly Free Funk.
Friday, the Bushnell Park Beer Garden happens from 4-8pm. Later Friday night bring Improv Comedy to  the Sea Tea Comedy Theater. Friday and Saturday nights there will be Full Moon Hike at Riverside Park.
Saturday the 24th Annual LEVAS Gospel Festival and Fair can be found as well as Hartford’s Pride Festival 2019 from 12:00pm-6pm. The Small State Great Beer event on Saturday features brews from various Connecticut breweries. The Red Rock Tavern will host its Sensual Salsa Saturdays.  www.hartford.com/events

On Friday night, the College Street Music Hall will present The Gypsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo.
At the Space Ballroom tomorrow night, Manic Presents Lucy Dacus shareing a bill with Quinn Christopherson, and Taylor Janzen.
Friday night, Barns Courtney plays at the Space Ballroom. Premiere CONCERTS AND MANIC PRESENTS bring Deerhunter + Dirty Projectors to the Wall Street Theatre. Additionally, they’ve got Grace Vander Waal: Ur so beautiful Tour at the College Street Music Hall on Saturday www.manicpresents.com

The Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore, hosts an evening event with Elissa Altman on her book "Motherland" on Thursday and they will be having a tag sale on Saturday.

Coming up this weekend, Wesleyan Potters is hosting a wire weaving class with Joy Raskin, and
every Wednesday until October 23, they are also hosting a tapestry weaving class.

At Infinity Hall in Hartford tonight/Wednesday you can catch Jonny Lang, followed by Sister Hazel and
on Thursday and Friday, Boyfriend.
At Infinity Norfolk, on Friday you can catch Ana Popovic and on Saturday, Albert Cummingson. www.infinityhall.com

Hartford’s Real Art Ways is now showing 4 highly rated movies; David Crosby: Remember My
Name, Cold Case Hammarskjold, Mike Wallace is Here, and Honeyland offering one screening

Tomorrow, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford concludes their spotlight on The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Tonight they will offer a one-time screening of Live in Cinemas:

At 6:30, stay tuned  for Fusion Radio with James Fusion for 90 minutes of techno mixed live!
From 8-9:30 it's The Warehouse with Mike Nyce featuring  the best of underground house music, mixed live for your listening pleasure.

And starting at 9:30, stay tuned for a half hour of Look What I Made, with Jersey Shore. An exploration into the various creators on Wesleyan's Campus.

From 10pm-to 11, it's Windy City Sounds with McCarthy and Moore Life presenting an episodic look at different eras and genres of Chicago music.

Starting at 11 stay tuned for Splitting Hairs with Shake and Bake and McKenzie. A humorous musical discussion show dedicated to analyzing the lyrics of popular songs.

At Midnight, stick around for Noize in the Attic, Where Your Past Comes Back To Haunt You. Serving Connecticut it’s hard rock fix of classic Heavy Metal as well as the latest from the genre!

 And at 3am, this summer we'll be rebroadcasting the day's noon brodacst of Democracy Now! From Pacifica.

And finally, rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
