Good evening, it’s Friday, November 30th! This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Here in Middletown at the Buttonwood Tree tonight, The Lost Tribe with Jocelyn Peasant takes the stage to bring you Afro-funk fusion. The Aligned with Source workshop happens Saturday morning, and in the evening you can catch the Blue Soul Jazz Unit featuring Ricky Alfonso.  On Sunday afternoon John Bassinger presents a one-act play, King Lear, Alone, and in the evening you're invited to experience Wesleyan student Serena Aimen's work to create a documentary film of an impromptu concert by immigrant musicians. In New Haven tonight, Cafe Nine brings Dittymack for Happy Hour, followed by a performance of Chris Bousquet's folk-rock opera, The Year of the Horse. Masks and The Monster, a wordless performance created by The Other Voice, will be performed on Friday and Saturday at the Carriage House Theater in Hartford. 

The city's Ice Skating Rink at Harbor Park is open, and the Middlesex Music Academy on Main Street invites musicians to their Student Rock Band ensemble Saturday at 1 pm, where you can hone your skills of playing in a band. They also hold their 4 Chord Fiesta Saturday at 4 pm. First Church Middletown invites you to their annual Holly Fair Saturday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, and Vinnie’s Jump and Jive offers free pictures with Santa on Saturday. The Gamelan Ensemble presents a Javanese Puppet Play: Wayang Kulit tonight at World Music Hall. Trinity College's Cinestudio in Hartford they open a run of Interstellar, a futuristic film in Super Panavision 70 mm. The Sunday matinee performance of the Bolshoi Ballet is Don Quixote, with all new choreography. They open a run of The Old Man and the Gun on Sunday. Until midnight is This Just In with dj willy j, providing soundtracks and reactions to the most eye-popping news stories of the week.

From midnight to 1, it's Jazzalicious Definition with DJ Stocks'n'Socks and MC McGee. Jazzalicious travels through the history of jazz by highlighting a different artist, sub-genre, or time period of each week. 

From 1-2am, DJ Jackson brings you the sonic hour - focusing on indie rock, prog pop, power pop, indie pop, etcetera. The show will compare music from a previous generation with its contemporaries. 

Playing until 3 is What The Funk with DJ Jagged Little Thrill and DJ Amoroso, exploring George Clinton's concept of "the Funk," as it appears across genres and generations. 

From 3-4am is the Hour Of Slack: Reverend Ivan Stang presents his own commentary, along with recorded material from all SubGenius radio and stage shows, bands, ranters, media barrage collage artists, and selections from the indie audio underground created by various SubGenii and others. 

Rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.

Here in Middletown, there’s Gentle Yoga with Theresa at the Buttonwood Tree tonight, and the Middlesex Drum Circle gathers at The Buttonwood on Thursday. On Friday, The Lost Tribe with Jocelyn Peasant takes the stage to bring you Afro-funk fusion. The Aligned with Source workshop happens Saturday morning, and in the evening you can catch the Blue Soul Jazz Unit featuring Ricky Alfonso.  On Sunday afternoon John Bassinger presents a one-act play, “King Lear, Alone,” and in the evening you’re invited to experience Wesleyan student Serena Aimen’s work to create a documentary film of an impromptu concert by immigrant musicians.
