Good evening, it's Thursday June 21st. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Today is Make Music Day 2018, an international musical celebration featuring live free concerts on streets, sidewalks, and parks. Here’s a rundown of tonight’s participating events in Middletown:

At Butternut Hollow Park, The Middletown Symphonic Band will perform at 5pm

At Harbor Park at 5pm there’s Hands on Drumming and Zoo Front performs indie Rock at 7:15.

Jedd Chlebowski performs electronic Jazz and funk at Klekolo World Coffee at 5:30 this evening and will be followed by Someone You can X-Ray, performing at 9pm.

Up main St at The Mac 650 Gallery and performance space, tonight, there’s a bill featuring Pleasure Beach, Dagwood, Pale Space, Tier and more!

GB Sneed performs Blues, Rock, and RnB at The Middletown Music Academy on Main St at 6:30 making way for a performance by GreenEyzMiami at The Academy at 7:30.

tonight, The Russell Library features Clara’s Journey: Why our Piano Goes to the Woods at 7pm.
Andrew Prue takes the Buttonwood Tree stage at 7pm.

right about now, starting at 5pm, you can catch Middlesex Music Academy Students performing live on the gazebo at Middletown’s South Green/Union Park.

Now, here's some of what's happening in our region throughout the rest of the week. 

In New Haven at Café Nine there's a Record Release Show for THE SEA THE SEA featuring Josiah Johnson and Planes on Paper. Friday’s Happy Hour set features Sean Conlon, and the late  show’s got Javier & Los DishDogs, The Lost Weekend, and more. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with the George Baker Band, followed by the late show with Miriam & Nobody’s Babies and Gotham Rockets . The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you  The BadSlax Jazz Quartet this Friday night. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble performs Saturday night. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, on Thursday night's It's Liviu Pop's Jazz invitational with special guests. It’s the award-winning West Hartford teen band Gravitonik on Friday, and on Saturday they celebrate the 19th annual Black-Eyed & Bluesfest starting at 3 pm in Bushnell Park. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/ 


Friday at the College Street Music Hall, Manic Presents offers a triple bill featuring The Neighbourhood, HEALTH, and Field Medic. On Saturday, the Hamden Academy of Dance & Music presents its 16th Annual Recital: Birth of a Nation.  www.manicpresents.com

The Russell Library in Middletown has a Microsoft Word workshop Friday morning, and Crafts for Adults at 11 am. They offer Yoga in the Hubbard Room and a Medical Massage on Saturday. Check the website for more activities and offerings for patrons of all ages. www.russelllibrary.org

At the Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in Middletown Check out their events for kids on Saturday, and on Sunday Connecticut Writing Groups hold a Meet UP from noon to 2 pm. www.wesleyanrjjulia.com

Infinity Hall Norfolk features Quinn Sullivan - Young blues guitar master, tonight/Thursday. Its classic Rock with the Outlaws Friday night at Infinity Hall Norfolk. Saturday, at Infinity Norfolk it's Robert Earl Keen for a night of Folk, Country, Rock, & Bluegrass. Sunday, Guitarist, Glen Roth take the stage. Opening Friday are “Summer 1993,” a Spanish film about grief and memory, and “The Most Unknown,” a documentary about science and discovery.
