Good evening, it's Friday, June 15th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown . By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

In New Haven, tonight, Friday’s Happy Hour set features Bronson Rock at 5pm and later you can catch Willie Nile and the Manchurians. Saturday, Café Nine’s weekly afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Dioguardi & Friends. Saturday night Deaf Poets take the stage. The Café Nine Sunday Matinée brings you The Foresters, and they round out the weekend Sunday evening with a performance by Duncan Reid and the Big Heads. http://www.cafenine.com/

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s,it’s Liviu’s Jazz Invitational. It’s blues and soul-jazz on Friday with the Jeremy Baum Trio, and Sacred Fire-a tribute to Santana takes Sally’s stage on Saturday. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/    

At the Russell Library in Middletown There’s an On the River Community Art Project Saturday morning. Come one come all for a hands-on art class to make a mural. Check the website for more activities and offerings for patrons of all ages. www.russelllibrary.org

At Toad’s Place in New Haven, On The Storm headlines the Toads Place mainstage Friday, appearing with INK, the Electric Lady Band, and more. In Lilly’s Pad on Friday it’s a Summer Starter with Something Young, Natural Law, and more.  There’s a Blacklight Glow Party on Saturday on two stages, while in Lily’s Pad, you they will offer CT Summer Vibes with Ro Bless, Ginnetti, and more. www.toadsplace.com

Jazz pianist Danny Green returns to The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, Friday night. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and there’s a Teen Open Mic Saturday in the afternoon. You can enjoy gospel, folk/rock and more in Saturday evening at The Buttonwood with Jon McAuliffe. The collage and watercolor exhibit by Candice Weigle-Spier runs through the month. www.buttonwood.org

Manic Presents brings The Breakfast and The Mushroom Cloud to the Space Ballroom in Hamden on Friday. On Sunday at the Ballrooms its, Tennis and The Telle. Manic Presents Kurt Vile and the Violators, along with Connections, on Friday at the College Street Music Hall New Haven. The main Street Car Cruise in Middletown has been postponed until Wednesday June 20th
This Saturday, from 5:30pm to 9pm at the Community Health Center at the corner of Main & Grand Sts. in Middletown, there will be a celebration of the life of Middletown's 1st Poet Laureate, Susan D E Allison, who passed away on May 15th. All who knew her, are invited to attend the celebration.

Tomorrow, Hartford’s Real Art Ways ends their afternoon run of “Tully,” a comedy about a bond between a new mother and her nanny.  Tomorrow Real Ways also closes out a run of This is our land a French film about a working mother running for Mayor. “The Gospel According to André,” a fashion documentary about André Leon Tally, runs through the 21st. Right after The jive at Five stick around for Grand Central Station with DJ Jenny Doll, who will take on back to the 30’s and forty’s with a mix of big band, jumping jazz, and rockabilly and more!

At 6:30 its time for the Universal Soundwave with Sistah Tee, offering 2 hrs of Reggae, RnB, and old school souls with a touch of Latin and African music plus health and wellness tips!

at 8:30 Rockadee will take you to The Other Side for some sweet lovers rock and dance hall reggae and RNB spotlighting local artists mixed in with the hit makers.

From 10-11:30 Its time for Strictly off the Head with DJ Cocomotion the music mixologist presenting a live mix show done on the fly with no prepared mixes or blends. Featuring classic hip hop and house and R&B.

then at 11:30 its Yowxa with Connor Clockwize for an hour of Punk rock and fun

At 3am stay tuned for Louisiana Barn Dance from Pacifica.

At 5am you can catch the BBC world Report before we kick of our Saturday morning program with The Celtic Café at 6am followed by Café Italia from 7-8.
