By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown offers Gentle Yoga with Theresa this afternoon, and a Shaking the Tree Gong and Sound Meditation on Thursday. The Adler & Hearner Jazz Folk Duo takes the buttonwood Tree stage Thursday night, and the Cindy Lee Berryhill Trio will be in the house on Saturday with material from their new collection. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and there’s a Teen Open Mic Saturday afternoon at The Buttonwood. In New Haven at Café Nine, The Blasters, and Lara Hope & The Ark-Tones will be in the house on Tuesday. On Wednesday at Café Nine you can catch Prophets of Addiction, Darn It All, and New Year’s Revolution. It’s The Number 9 Blacktops and The Shoutbacks at The Nine on Thursday. Friday’s Happy Hour features Jenny Parrott, and in the evening Manic Presents brings you hardcore O.G. rockers, Agent Orange, performing with Fea, and Easy Killer. Saturday Café Nine’s afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Dioguardi & Friends, and the Saturday night late show features Magic Dick & Shun Ng, with the Bouchard Brothers opening. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra plays jazz, R&B, and soul classics on Tuesday. The Community Blues Jam happens every Wednesday, and on Thursday it’s Liviu’s Jazz Invitational with special guests. Enjoy funky blues and soul on Friday with Ray Morant’s Soul Tsunami. The Russell Library in Middletown has The August session of the Girls Who Code workshop series starts This evening, and the Russell Readers will discuss “Harmony of the World” by Charles Baxter, this week. You can enjoy Scrabble Wednesday at 2 pm, and at 3 pm they hold Technology Drop-in Hours. The Fiddlers Workshop continues Wednesday evening at Russell Library. They sponsor a Book Discussion with the Author Thursday evening presenting Abby Fabiaschi with her debut novel, “I Liked My Life.” Assemblages from Natural Materials is the theme of Friday morning’s Crafts for Adults workshop. The Russell Library Girls Who Code program sponsors a Robotics Demonstration Saturday morning by the Mercy Tech Tigers, and there’s Yoga in the Courtyard too. Next Monday’s noontime Book Talk with a Walk will discuss “Tuesdays with Morrie,” and the Eat Right When Money is Tight nutrition series continues at 1 pm with Label Reading.
