Good evening, it's Wednesday, March 21st. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Here's what's going on in our area  this week:
Tonight/Wednesday, In New Haven, at Cafe Nine there’s another Words & Music session. On Thursday you can catch Consolidated Plastics, Stefan Christensen, Syntax, and The Wilful Boys. Friday night is an EP Release Show with An Historic, The Lost Tribe, and Sam Moth. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with the George Baker Band, and the late show’s got The Hymans, The Lost Riots, and more. , For the Sunday Buzz Matinee they’ve got a Local Bands Show, and the late show brings you That 1 Guy, Detroit Rebellion, and Scott Helland. shttp://www.cafenine.com/

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, it's the Wednesday Community Blues Jam. It’s Liviu’s Invitational on Thursday, and on Friday it’s Danny Pease and the Regulators. Saturday’s headliner is the Nick Moss Band from Chicago. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/

Elizabeth Park in Hartford holds a greenhouse bulb and plant sale this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. www.elizabethparkct.org

Manic Presents is at the Space Ballroom in Hamden on Wednesday with Movements, Can’t Swim, Super Whatevr, and more. On Friday, they’ve got Icon For Hire, Makeout, Courage My Love, and Cometa. On Saturday they headline The Felice Brothers, appearing with The Backyard Committee. On Sunday they’re at the College Street Music Hall with Godspeed You! This evening/Wednesday at The Russell Library in Middletown, there’s an Introduction to Shadow Puppetry workshop. On Thursday night, the Middlesex County Historical Society sponsors an illustrated talk by Max Miller, author of “Along the Valley Line,” a book about railroads. The Friday morning computer session is Introduction to Microsoft Word, and there’s Adult Coloring for Stress Reduction. There’s Yoga in the Hubbard Room Saturday morning. Thursday, the Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in Middletown  sponsors R. Wilson and Ginny Connors who discuss “Poetry of Presence,” an anthology of mindfulness poems. At The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, The Middlesex Drum Circle meets Thursday night.  The Radial Points Ensemble brings you music and poetry Friday night. On Saturday morning it’s the Aligned with Source workshop, and the evening show features the May Erlewine Duo. John Basinger brings Book X (10) of Milton’s Paradise Lost to the Buttonwood on Sunday afternoon. The International Women’s Day art exhibit continues through the month, featuring various artists. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:


Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Goldstone,” about clashing cultures in an Australian mining outpost, and “Leaning into the Wind: Andy Goldsworthy,” a continuation of an artist’s travelogue. Also continuing is their afternoon movie, “Lady Bird,” about conflicts in a mother/daughter relationship. All run through Thursday. Opening Friday is “Claire’s Camera,” A French comedy about photographers in Cannes. They also open “Keep the Change,” a romantic comedy about a filmmaker with autism. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues “No Stone Unturned,” an Alex Gibney documentary about religious conflict in Northern Ireland, through Wednesday. On Thursday they open “The Shape of Water,” an Oscar-winning film about a mysterious creature from the Amazon. The Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford is screening the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of “Twelfth Night” Thursday and Friday. At 6pm  Captured with DJ Aurah Explores the art of writing about other people.



From 6:30-8pm Fusion Radio with James Fusion presents a 90 minute techno mix.



At 8pm The Warehouse with Mike Nyce features underground house music, mixed live for your listening pleasure.



From 9:30-11pm  The Vault with DJ Anton Banks wraps up our electronic dance music block.



From 11-midnight dumpster dive with smelly and yourstruly presents punk, art pop and diy coming from a garbage compactor near you.



From midnight to 4 am it's Franco bringing you the best of Disco from the 1970's and 80's.

And at 4am, the BBC World News comes on board and we begin our broadcast day with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
